Freestyle skate boarding tricks involve some other part of the board instead of the four wheels. This may be one or two wheels, the tail of the board, or either edge. Freestyle skateboarding tricks include different ways to flip the board, and are one of the earliest styles of skateboarding tricks.
Aerials are skateboarding tricks that are done in the air. The boarder uses one hand to hold the board to his or her feet. Tony Alva made this style of skateboarding trick popular with his famous frontside airs. Many easy skateboard tricks, like the Ollie, are part of this group.

Slides and grinds are skateboarding tricks that require the board to be against an edge or rail and sliding along the trucks or the board. These skateboarding tricks started along curbs and swimming pool edges and have since expanded to handrails and other types of edges.
Lip tricks are done on the coping of a pool or ramp. These skateboarding tricks require the momentum and vertical attitude that can only be gotten on a transitioned riding surface.
